Blue Merle Great Dane training can be a bit complicated, especially leash training. Did you know that one of the most frustrating issues for Great Dane owners is leash walking? The greatest problem is when your dog hauls and when you have a Great Dane it can be very disturbing. It can truly be unsafe for you to walk your Great Dane if he is a truly bad puller. I've seen people getting dragged down and getting hurt by their own dog pulls. If I get hurt from the pulling of my dog it will be much worse for my spouse or my small kids to take the dog for a walk.
So in this explanation, I'm about to share with you 4 simple tips on leash walking. Its not so complicated to catch them and you shouldnt have a hard time implementing them:
Tip #1:
Never try to walk a dog that has been waiting for you all day.
If your dog has been lying around and doing nothing, let him release some of his zest before you take him for a walk. Throw something, play with him, or do any thing to calm him down before you go out with him.
Tip #2:
Use the appropriate collar.
There are many good leashes on the market and one of them is the gentle leader head dog collar but you can pick any similar dog collar. You need a choker that works by mastering your dog's head.
Tip #3:
Teach him where you want him to be.
Your dog does not know that he is meant to walk on your side. Spend some time using a lure. Put a tiny healthy candy in your left hand and hold it close to your dog's nose. Have him pay attention to the lure, pay a gratuity to him every five or six feet. As he gets your point, go for longer times.
Tip #4:
Don't let your dog's counter pressure get in.
Its a simple common fact we shall all remember always: When you add your force, your dog will resist with counter-pressure. If you pull back on the leash, he will resist and pull harder...opposition reflex. The secret to leash striding is trying to maintain the leash loose. Don't allow the leash to become tight-fitting.
